Case Files

All cases that we investigate are different and always sensitive. Here we provide an outline of the cases we are handling and each of their current status situations. Please note that detailed information about any case we can only provide through updates when we reach the final stage(s), as we have done so with the narrative page about James Garnett. If you have any queries about any of these cases or wish to present a case to us, please contact our General Secretary’s Office directly at – jamesgarnettfoundation@gmail.com

Outline details of our current CASE FILES are listed below:

Case Ref: JGF-240302
Status – OPEN and ACTIVE

An emotive case of two brothers who currently are NOT included on a small village war memorial within the village in which they were born in the South Midlands.  UPDATE - Progress has been hindered by a ‘deliberation’ that after quite some time has eventually been explained. What should be a straight-forward case is lingering on the outcome of what appears to be a multitude of opinions and ‘judgements’. We await the outcome, still with no idea of what it will be. So, our next step is once again to wait and see, then to the next step? We are not going away.  See - 'LOST BROTHERS' page on this website.

Case Ref: JGF-240303
Status - PARTIALLY RESOLVED

This is an unusual and unique commemoration case regarding a Muslim soldier, Shah Ahmad Khan of the former British Indian Army who gave his life in WW1. We have presented this case to the relevant respectable authority. UPDATE - With careful and respectful consideration, a dignified private solution is to be implemented to resolve this case.

Case Ref: JGF-240304
Status - RESOLVED

Another bespoke case this time involving a large war memorial and a dedicated annual service, not connected with the traditional Remembrance Sunday commemorations. UPDATE – Case successfully resolved and enhanced by our recent acquisition of an incredible related artefact. See – ‘BOLTON RIFLES’ page on this website.

Case Ref: JGF-240405
Status - RESOLVED

Small gestures can have great meanings. We took the opportunity of returning an artefact that relates directly to a fallen soldier back into his local community that led to a full service of dedication. UPDATE – A wonderful conclusion that brought together a community with three generations of the soldier’s family present at a dedicated service. UPDATE – We gathered new members to the Foundation as a result of the service and made many friends, the way we were hosted was absolutely superb. See – ‘EDWIN BANKS’ page on this website for a full report and pictures.

Case Ref: JGF-240301
Status – OPEN and ACTIVE

A complicated and challenging case involving two fallen soldiers of the same name, from the same town and whom worked in the same place. Only one of them is named upon their local town war memorial, in the North East of England, the other is missing. Liaison has started with a local authority and will probably be necessary with a government authority. Progress is expected to be slow-paced but will be regularly updated. UPDATE – We have had to escalate this case due to the discoveries of many more men missing from the two memorials of the town, with scant reaction from the authorities to date. Simply not good enough, we will pursue this until we reach a satisfactory conclusion no matter how long it takes.

Case Ref: JGF-240406
Status – OPEN and ACTIVE

A highly emotive case, once again involving two brothers. The delicate nature of the subject matter here is somewhat unusual and one that will have a community aspect directly related to it. This case is from a well-known and picturesque town in Cumbria. UPDATE - After some time we have received a very helpful and positive response from a local historical society. There is however still some distance to go in bringing a resolution to this case.

Case Ref: JGF- 240507
Status – OPEN and CONTINUOUSLY ACTIVE

The most ambitious of all of our cases, a long-term pro-active and ongoing initiative we have entitled – ‘The Northern Project’. With this one we will cover a lot of ground over many areas of Northern England where we have connections from our own library or artefacts, such is the scale of this project we have created a dedicated page to cover the outline details. UPDATE – An early mixed response here with some organisations showing great enthusiasm. Unfortunately, a couple of others with some contempt have completely wasted our time and limited resources. We remain positive and cheerful. Please refer to the page on this website – ‘NORTHERN PROJECT

Case Ref: JGF-240608
Status - OPEN and ACTIVE

An international case and one that is proving to be challenging. Please refer to the page on this website - 'VICTOR EARL'

Case Ref: JGF – 240709

An emotive case to honour a fallen soldier who lost his life on the very last day of WW1, November 11 1918.
UPDATE – Progress on a positive note is ongoing with a village community in Devon.
